London π³
Well I missed a day because we were traveling as, if you are my age, you know is extremely taxing. Next time NO carryon. The baggage thing is just so tedious.
So we managed to get to the Dublin airport, good bye’s to our kids and proceed to wait 2 hours for the British Airways counter to open up so we could check this suitcase. While waiting, there was no place to sit but upon that suitcase…..Finally through the bag thing and onto a bit to eat then the airplane.
Arrived London and waited forever for our suitcase. We had no problem securing a taxi at a ridiculous price and made our way to our digs in the West Kensington area. The landlord “upgraded” our spot from a studio to a 1 bedroom apartment. This would seem a nice surprise until you understand that the upgraded apartment is on the 2nd floor (you know what that means on the continent). I had been careful to rent the studio because it was on (actually under) the ground and Russ has mobility issues, especially with stairs. Oh well, best laid plans …..
In any event, we made it up the stairs and fell into bed.
Sleep was great and we rose to an absolutely beautiful sunny day!
We decided to test out our underground prowess and after sleeping late and eating a light breakfast, we headed over to the West Kensington station and managed to find our way down to the Tottenham Road station which is near the British Museum where we are planning to meet our tour guide tomorrow. This was sort of a dry run, so to speak.
We had lunch at an upscale food court and visited the guitar area of town on Denmark St. This guitar store had guitars that were played by John Lennon and George Harrison and god know who else. I suppose that someone who knows about guitars recognizes this place:
After lunch we rested up in the churchyard of St Giles of the Field. St Giles is the Patron Saint of handicap people. https://www.british-history.ac.uk/old-new-london/vol3/pp197-218
and found our way back home to our local digs.
Check out these funny comics that we saw at the restaurant. There were many, but these two were my favorites:
We had dinner at this little Italian place in the hood and met a couple of interesting fellows. The more loquacious of them was Allen and he and Russ had a lot in common because they were both soldiers.
So that’s all for the 2 days. We are going to the British Museum tomorrow and have purchased the services of a guide for a couple hours.!
